Samuel Kenion Patton was born in Archey, Van Buren County, October 3, 1880. He was the son of John Henry and Susan Corine Couch Patton. He married Merle Gertrude Short at Damascus on March 12, 1911. Mr. Patton had a varied career. Besides his term as sheriff, he was county and circuit clerk from 1912-1916, county judge from 1937-1940, chairman of the Democratic Central Committee for many years, a drug store operator and abstractor (abstract office). He was a member of the Clinton Methodist Church and a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. Mr. Patton died at his home in Clinton on October 25, 1957 and is buried in Clinton Cemetery.
