Montford Clinton Rerdell was sheriff 1868-1873. He was born August 1, 1841 in Georgia and died December 29, 1924 in Florida. He was appointed postmaster of the Clinton Post Office on March 2, 1871. By 1880 he, his wife Mary Catherine, and two daughters were in Washington, DC, where he was working for the postal service. His funeral records list his occupation as lawyer and retired judge. He was District Judge in the Panama Canal Zone during the early 1900s.
