James Pearce was born about 1813 in Tennessee. His wife was Jane Potts. He bought land in Van Buren County in 1855, but by 1858 the family was living in Benton County, Arkansas. He was killed in Benton County during the Civil War, supposedly by bushwhackers. His wife and family had moved back to the Bee Branch area in Van Buren County by 1870.
