Sheriff Vernon “Gus” Anglin
Term: 1977-1986
Mr. Anglin was born March 1, 1936 at Robinson, Arkansas, the son of Howard and Mae Morgan Anglin. He married Murlene Williams in 1956 and they raised a son and a daughter. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a deputy for his father-in-law, Jake Williams. In 1980 when the Titan missile exploded near Damascus, Gus was the sheriff and was in charge of evacuating the residents. After retiring from the sheriff’s office, he spent his time holding auctions. He died May 29, 2013 and is buried beside his wife in Lexington Cemetery.
