Sheriff William M. Peel

William M. Peel was born March 23, 1850 in Van Buren County. He was raised in the Bradley community, the son of Richard and Mahulda Griggs Peel. He was county and circuit clerk from 1878-1884, when he was elected sheriff. After one term as sheriff he was elected representative to the state legislature. In 1894 he was elected county and circuit clerk for one term. He was in the mercantile business and then in abstract and title. Mr. Peel married Kate Maddox and when she died he married Florence Sanders. William M. Peel died in 1933 and is buried in the Clinton Cemetery.
