William H. Griggs was sheriff in 1858 and 1859. He was the son of Mays Griggs and was married to Caroline Akin. W. H. was born about 1835 in Arkansas and died prior to April 24, 1863, when his estate was “vested in his widow”. Caroline Griggs married Andrew Hardy May 24, 1871 and probably died in Oklahoma. W. H. served as 2nd Lt in the 16th AR Infantry Co. F during the Civil War and was discharged June 15, 1862.
