James Lee Kidd was born October 17, 1885 at Choctaw, Arkansas, the son of L. L. and Betty Suggs Kidd. He married Pearl L. Lovell on May 4, 1904 and they had five children. He farmed and worked in the mercantile business with his father. Mr. Kidd was sheriff from 1919-1923. He, his brother-in-law Will Lovell, and an officer from the U.S. Marshal’s Office apprehended a notorious outlaw in the northwest part of the county without incident. He was Chief Deputy U.S. Marshall for the Eastern District of Arkansas from 1923-1927. He later was National Probation Officer for 3 ½ years. Mr. Kidd also was an agent for the National Alcohol Tax and Firearms Division until retirement in 1942 due to ill health. He died September 13, 1954 and is buried in the Huie Cemetery.
