Sheriff Antharias B. Gaylor

Antharias B. Gaylor was sheriff in 1862 and 1863. He was born in North Carolina about 1820 and was in Tazewell County, Illinois when he married Mary Ann Hughes in 1846. By the 1860 census they were in Van Buren County, Arkansas. Antharias served in the Union Army 3rd Arkansas Cavalry. He was a saddler by trade and served as that in the army. Mary Ann died in 1864 and he married Elizabeth Simpkins Dempsey in Conway County in 1866. He was county judge of Conway County from 1868-1872. They continued to live in Conway County where he died July 22, 1896.
